Italian lighting brand Flos continues its collaboration with German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, unveiling its latest collection, Nocturne, at Milan Design Week.
“Nocturne marks an evolution from our 2019 Noctambule series,” the modern lighting brand says. “While sharing a kinship in blown glass and advanced LED technology, the new lamp takes a more technical and modular approach to lighting design. The name Nocturne is inspired by the subtle glow of the moon, casting both focused and ambient light to create an ethereal atmosphere.”
Made from blown borosilicate glass, Nocturne combines the delicate poetry of glass with the precise logic of aluminium extrusions, the brand says. The collection is actually a modular system that allows for endless combinations and a tailored approach to lighting environments.

“By merging high-tech LED optics with the timeless beauty of blown glass, the Nocturne collection opens new possibilities for both architectural and domestic spaces,” Grcic explains.
An evolution of the Noctambule family that Grcic designed in 2019, Nocturne reprises the use of blown glass and LED tech but the collection is more adaptable to various looks. “The identity of Nocturne is defined by the visual contrast between the ethereal refinement of glass and the overtly industrial appearance of the track-mounted technical component, resulting in a sophisticated design with a distinct character,” Flos says. “By pairing high-performance optics with the timeless beauty of glass, the collection thoughtfully expresses both the decorative and architectural soul of the Flos universe, unlocking new possibilities across contract and residential settings.”

The glass lamps come in two shapes: a conical form with a focused spot optic for directional illumination and a half-sphere delivering a softer, diffused light. Both lamp shapes incorporate dual LED sources: a primary high-performance light (either focused or diffuse) and an ambient glow that illuminates the glass body itself, giving the transparent material a luminous, almost ethereal quality.
The collection features three configurations: floor-standing, suspension and wall-mounted. Compared to the previous Noctambule collection, the diffusers are more compact (300 millimeters in diameter for the semi-sphere and 160 millimeters for the cone).
Each model is built around a structural, low-voltage electrified profile in extruded aluminium, measuring 26 millimeters in thickness and 45 millimeters in width. Several lighting units can be mounted on each of the electrified sides of the profile, positioned freely at the desired height.

“The upright takes inspiration from the language and aesthetics of architectural lighting tracks, yet its apparent simplicity conceals a meticulous process by Flos: the miniaturisation of every component and the calibration of sections and dimensions to support the weight of cantilevered fixtures,” the 64-year-old lighting brand says. “Similarly, the entire mounting system is mechanical and has been radically simplified to enable easy assembly, disassembly and repairability.”
As with the historic Noctambule collection, both glass diffusers are equipped with a die-cast aluminium element to dissipate heat from the LED source. Nocturne also features a delicate luminous ring that marks the junction between the lamp and its support arm, giving an ethereal glow to the glass body itself.
The floor version, which measures 195 centimeters tall, features a vertical track that rises from a flat metal base, supporting one or more glass diffusers for highly versatile applications. Its conical light module rotates on two axes and delivers precise, directional illumination, ideal for reading or accent lighting, while the semi-spherical glass module directs the light upwards for soft ambient illumination. A foot-operated dimmer allows simultaneous control of all the light sources.

The wall-mounted version extends horizontally into the space from a rectangular mounting plate. As in the other configurations, the conical diffuser offers focused, directional light, while the semi-spherical version provides soft, indirect uplighting.
The suspension model is developed in three different variants: a larger version with a head in the shape of a half sphere, and a smaller version with a head either in the shape of a half sphere or a cone. The small half-sphere and the cone use the same glass shapes as in the floor-standing version. The light engine is also identical. The larger half-sphere uses a new glass shape, with a light engine developed specifically for this lamp. The lamps are suspended from a metal wire, while the electrical cable runs loosely in parallel.
The light source for the collection is an 18-watt LED offering 2700 K and CRI 90. Two finishes are available: black and silver.
