Giovanni Barbieri, a floor and wall covering company founded by artist and designer Giovanni Barbieri, has developed a whimsical new parquet flooring with floral designs. The Blooming parquet floor features a floral pattern design that combines the delicacy of a bouquet of flowers and the materiality of wood, the company says.
Blooming, the company explains, expresses a new aesthetic and functional concept of parquet. It features 60 distinct oak “petals” that are available in three shades combined in flooring application, creating “striking floral compositions, with a strong material expressiveness,” the brands says. Sophisticated “blooms” come to life with each laying, the company adds, through shapes that are never the same but always well-coordinated.

In Barbieri’s view, flooring has a significant influence on the general appearance of a room, but wood floors in particular “create a natural, warm ambience, make the ground look inviting to walk on and are furthermore extremely resilient and durable,” the brand says. This is why the stone and tile designer decided to create wooden flooring for the first time in his creative life.
Industrially manufactured and cut, the individual wood elements are beveled and can be freely positioned to create a different look each time, thanks to a simple and intuitive laying system.
The product combines shapes that are never the same but always well-coordinated with the functionality of a simple, self-explanatory installation system, the company says. Each multi-layered parquet consists of two bonded sheets of wood: a durable oak layer sitting on top of a birch plywood substrate. To ensure its long-term durability, the parquet is glued and can also easily be installed with underfloor heating.

Twelve wood colors and four surface finishes offer a wealth of design options to suit individual preferences. Depending on how the various colors of the oak are combined, it is possible to achieve either a rhythmic effect or – by selecting similar colors – a more uniform appearance.
“The eclectic floral pattern gives no indication that the parquet flooring system is ultimately based on only three standard shapes,” the company says. “Randomly installed, it hence produces a unique floor design for a lively room feel.”
