Commercial modern lighting brand Alva Lighting has introduced a new wall sconce that incorporates apartment or condo unit number.
Alva says unit number sconces continue to be its most rapidly growing part of its business, mainly because the numbers associated with multifamily housing are strong and trending up. Multifamily housing, the brand points out, is a rapidly growing sector of the construction industry as the median first-time home buyer this year was 38 years old, up from 35 yrs old in 2023. In California, first-time home buyers average 49 years old, and the median age of home buyers nationally is 56 today.
“Reality is that a vast majority of the population are now opting for multifamily options,” the company says. “They are more affordable and offer great lifestyle options for a large sector of the population. A large sector of the population prefer an apartment with less maintenance, great security and affordability.”

The brand says it developed the new line as a direct result of customer feedback. Designed with a soft and sleep silhouette, the light is more user friendly. “Entranceways and/or doorways have sharp angles,” the company says. “Most corridors have sharp angles as well. Tabitha has a soft curved shape, a curved resin shade on the façade. These curves soften the angles, creating a pleasant, more inviting feel.”
Following a trend, Alva also made the light narrow and sleek. The sconces measure 5½ inches wide and 23 inches long, and they incorporate braille as part of the fixture instead of being an applied plaque. “The result is a clean minimalist approach,” the company says.
Tabitha is available in four standard metal finishes–black, oil-rubbed bronze, satin nickel and satin brass–and four Chemetal premium finishes. In addition, 10 resin shade pattern options are available.
