Dutch furniture, interior and lighting design company Moooi has launched a new suspension light that merges “a minimalistic geometric structure with the organic flow of its 3D-knitted polyester shade.”
The Drape Light by Toronto, Ontario-based Jamie Wolfond consists of two simple glass tubes encapsulating LED lights that the company says produce “a mesmerizing interplay” of light and shadow. “After years of exploration, Jamie Wolfond and Moooi were able to condense it into a simple, yet sophisticated light that creates an essential, deliberate and warm atmosphere,” the company says.
The light uses two 360-degree LEDs in glass tubes with aluminum details. Shaped by gravity, the 3D-knitted polyester fabric then rests on top of the tubes. It has a color temperature of 2740 and a light output of 2150 lumens. The CRI is 81. “The essence of my design vision lies in material interaction, where the tension and flow of elements create a poetic dance of form and function,” Wolfond says.

Drape is available in two sizes: Model 78, which measures 30.7 inches wide, 30.7 inches deep and 35.8 inches in height, and Model 118, which is 46.5 inches wide, 30.7 inches deep and 35.8 inches in height.
“The Drape Light is not just a lighting fixture, but a statement piece that expresses the designer’s philosophy of blending material and natural world observations with subtle functionality,” the company says.
Known for its very popular Random Light II, Moooi was founded by designer Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers (who is no longer with the brand). Moooi is named after the Dutch word for beautiful – Mooi. The third ‘O’ in the brand name stands for an extra value in terms of beauty and uniqueness. “Moooi does not tell designers what to do, but listens to what designers want to make, and realizes their dreams,” the company says. “Eclectic and always on the edge of commercial reality and cultural interest.”
